Tied Fists, Unbroken Spirits (2018)
Dambe is more than a martial art in northern Nigeria—it's a raw expression of survival, pride, and identity. With one hand bound, young fighters clash in fierce combat for fleeting moments of glory, rewarded with cheers and small donations. Yet, behind the adrenaline of the fight lies a deeper struggle—many are drawn into cycles of violence, addiction, and a harsh reality they cannot escape.
This project captures the tension between Dambe's beauty and brutality, shedding light on the resilience and fragility of these young men who fight not only for victory but also for meaning in a world where both are often elusive.
