Behind Mama Celine's Wheel (2019)
Rwanda is celebrated for championing gender equality in Africa. The constitution requires women to hold at least 30% of all elected positions. This has led to at least 49 women entering parliament, which is 61%—the highest in the world. Four of the seven Supreme Court seats are held by women.
While women are gaining ground in many sectors, quite a few are getting involved in male-dominated informal sectors like the Transportation business.
Ernestine Mukagihana, whom her colleagues call 'Mama Celine,' is one of the many women who are challenging these stereotypes by driving passengers on long-haul journeys daily. She is passionate about driving and has done exceedingly well for over a decade.
